Daniella Rangel, a kindergartener at St. Mary School in Mayville enjoyed a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Principal Mrs. Yauck said that lunch with Daniella was the highlight of her day. She is such a sweet little girl and her smile is so incredibly precious. Daniella talked a lot about her brothers and how much she likes spending time with them. She said that one of her favorite things to do is to go to Texas to see two of them. Daniella said that she is looking forward to going to the trampoline park with her family for her birthday, which is coming up on Tuesday. She said with a grin on her face, "wouldn't it be funny if I made my dad do a cannon ball in the ball pit" then giggled. She also talked about saving all the gold coins she gets from the Tooth Fairy and when she "gets really old, like 10 years old" she is going to buy a hamster and puppy.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, St. Mary School second grader, John Yanke, enjoyed a Picnic with the Principal. Mrs. Yauck said that having lunch with John made her realize how fast kids grow up. She feels so blessed to have this time with each of the kids to stay connected to them in this special way. John told Mrs. Yauck about how he loves wrestling and can't wait until it starts in winter. John showed her a beautiful rope bracelet he was wearing and said that they made them in Boy Scouts. He said that they do a lot of fun activities in Boy Scouts and learn a lot about nature. Mrs. Yauck learned that John loves spending time with his family going camping, fishing, and watching movies together on movie night. He is looking forward to the day he can go hunting with dad but is too young for that yet. What made Mrs. Yauck smile most is when she learned that he crochets with his mom and made a blanket for his baby cousin. How great is that?

St. Mary School 1st grader Scarlett Urrieta Landeros had a “Picnic with the Principal” on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Principal Mary Yauck said that Scarlett’s kind heart, beautiful smile, and wonderful personality was the highlight of her day. Scarlett told Mrs. Yauck that one of her favorite things to do is to take care of her younger sisters and read to them, especially when they wake up early so they don't wake up mom and dad.  What a great big sister! Scarlett loves to go to the park because it has a lot of play equipment. When Mrs. Yauck asked her what she likes about school she said her friends and reading. Scarlett loves to read and said school is fun because everyone is nice to her and her teacher teaches her a lot of stuff.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, St. Mary School first grader William Schuller had a "Picnic with the Principal." William was so excited during lunch. He talked a mile a minute. Part of what he and Principal Mary Yauck about was about how much he loves rollercoasters. He got up from the table and acted out, along with the sounds, the movements of his favorite rides. William said that he really enjoys staying at the Super 8 with his grandma because of the hot tub and pool and Mrs. Yauck agreed with him. William also told her that someday he wants to fly to Iowa to see his grandparents with his family, but right now they drive and the car ride is long.  "Flying is so much faster and I would like it waaaaaaaaay better". Going up north is one of his family's favorite things to do. He told her that they like looking at the trail cams that are set up so they can see all the wildlife and then proceeded to tell her about all of the animals that they have seen on them.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, St. Mary School kindergartener Lana Otey had a Picnic with the Principal. Mrs. Yauck said that Lana is such a pleasure to talk with. Lana loved talking about school and all her friends. When she was asked who she likes to play with and she proceeded to tell me all the children in her class. Mrs. Yauck says Lana is definitely an easy person to make friends with. Lana told Mrs. Yauck that when she is at home, she likes to ride her UTV and go to the park. She said that she went to the new playground at St. John's the other day and she ran into a couple of friends from St. Mary's. Mrs. Yauck and Lana talked about Pokémon cards, their favorite foods, and what makes Lana smile.

St. Mary School second grader Mia Varallo had a Picnic with the Principal on Thursday, Oct. 19. Mrs. Yauck said that Mia had her lunch all set, everything in its place, and was waiting patiently for their visit. Mia told Mrs. Yauck about how much she enjoys going to the lake. She also likes to play with her dogs there and collect rocks. Mia said that she  enjoys going to the park and playing with brother and sister. She told Mrs. Yauck that she really likes school. She said what makes her most happy at school is playing with her friends and doing Math.

Right after they got their lunches and settled in, Landon looked at Mrs. Yauck and said "Today is my lucky day! I got to do morning announcements, have lunch with you, and I don't have to wash the lunch tables today." Landon told Mrs. Yauck that he enjoys water slides in the summer and sledding in the winter. He asked Mrs. Yauck if she knows the difference between water slides and sledding on a hill. He said in the summer it is water because it is warm out and in the winter it is frozen water because it is cold out. He likes spending time with his mom and dad because they love him very much.

St. Mary School first grader Aubree Meinke had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Mrs. Yauck said that she couldn't help but smile when she was spending time with Aubree. Aubree has such a bubbly and care free personality! Aubree and Mrs. Yauck talked about their love of animals, specifically their dogs. Aubree has a dog named Lexi and another named Stella and that they are very funny and love to be around the family. Mrs. Yauck asked Aubree what she likes to do with her family and she said that they go on hikes and like to go on family vacations to see historic things like old cemeteries. Aubree said that it is so cool to go around and look at all the stuff in them. Aubree told Mrs. Yauck that she loves school and playing with her friends. She likes doing school work, "in fact, I do my school work at home because it is very important to get that done".

St. Mary School second grader Madilyn TeStroete enjoyed a Picnic with the Principal on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Principal Mrs. Yauck said that Madilyn was full of smiles and stories. They talked a lot about her new baby brother. She loves him so much. Madilyn said that she also is so happy that both her mom and step dad are home because she gets to go home after school and spend a lot of time with them. Madilyn told Mrs. Yauck that she likes to go on vacations and travel by plane and has been on a plane about twelve times. She has been to many places, but her favorite was seeing the Redwoods and driving through them. She said she wanted to climb one but when she got up close, she knew that there was "no way". She talked so much about school. Some of Madilyn's favorite things to do at school are presentations, STEAM projects, reading and writing.

St. Mary School kindergartener Carson MacNeill had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Principal Mary Yauck said that while normally Carson is on the shyer side, that day he was talking a mile a minute. She just listened for a bit and soaked in everything he was saying. He told Mrs. Yauck that his favorite thing to do is ride his dirt bike. He said that he rides with he said usually dad but when he has to work, mom rides with him. How fun! Carson told her all about his protective gear that he has to wear. He said that they are all important but the helmet and chest are the most important because they keep his brain and heart safe. Carson told Mrs. Yauck that he likes to go to Texas to visit his grandparents. He brings his dirt bike with them and grandpa rides with him when they are there. Carson's favorite part of school is sledding down the big hill with his friends. He said it makes him laugh. Mrs. Yauck said that she truly enjoyed her lunch with Carson.

St. Mary School second grader Grayson Staiduhar had a "Picnic with the Principal" today! Mrs. Yauck said that lunch with Grayson was so enjoyable and that he has such beautiful heart. when Grayson and Mrs. Yauck sat down and the first thing out of his mouth was, "how was your weekend Mrs. Yauck?" She told him that it was great and that I loved spending time with the kids and their families. When she asked Grayson what his favorite part of the weekend was, he said everything because it was all so different. He loved being in the parade with all his friends. Grayson told Mrs. Yauck that he loves going to Mass, especially the special ones. They talked about what he does when he is not at school. He enjoys spending time with his family and going to visit his grandparents in Eagle River. He has a cat named Olive that loves to snuggle on the couch with him.

St. Mary School 1st grader Joshua Gonzalez Mendoza had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Joshua talked with Mrs. Yauck about the prize he got in his Happy Meal which sparked a conversation about what he likes to do when he is not in school. He said one of his favorite things to do is have movie night with his family. They mostly have time together at home but sometimes go to the movie theater to enjoy a movie. Joshua told Mrs. Yauck that he loves to go visit his grandma in North Carolina. He is super excited to go this year because they are going to fly there instead of drive. He has a rabbit named Hairs that he likes to play with. At school, Joshua said he loves to play outside with his friends in both winter and summer. In winter he likes to build forts, go sledding, and play in the snow. In summer he likes to play soccer, tag, and swing. He said his favorite thing to do when not outside is read to his book buddy. He loves to read.

St. Mary School kindergartener Paolo Gudiel Fabian had a “Picnic with the Principal” on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Mrs. Yauck said that Paolo started talking to her about his Happy meal toy the minute she walked into the gym. Paolo talked a lot about his friends at school and how much he likes everyone. When asked what he likes best about playing with his friends, he said "Everything! I like playing with all the kids because everyone likes to play different things". Paolo likes his kindergarten class too. They do a lot of fun things and "then work that makes them learn". Mrs. Yauck asked Paolo what he likes to do when he is not at school and he said that he plays with his mom, dad, and brother. They play hide and seek but his dad always finds him because he hides in his bed every. Paolo said that he also likes having play dates with his friend Samantha and Marcello.

St. Mary School third grader David Schuller enjoyed a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Jan. 3rd. David's opening line was such a great intro to the rest of the conversation. Mrs. Yauck asked him how his Christmas break was and he said, with wide open arms, "it was crazy, we were everywhere!" David went on to explain that they went to the TAG center and to church, Santa came, they went up north, and then visited grandma and grandpa. David said that some of the highlights were a football net from Santa that the whole family can play with and helps you get good at throwing the football. David told Mrs. Yauck that he likes going up north because they get to explore and play family games. They added a windmill aerator to the pond so the fish will not die. David said that they watched the Packer game at grandma and grandpa's house from the hot tub. "It was so cool and Aaron Jones, he is such a beast". Mrs. Yauck, a huge Packers fan herself, said that comment made her say that he was a boy after her own heart!

St. Mary School 2nd grader Evelyn Hecker had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Principal Mrs. Yauck said that lunch with Evelyn today was so pleasant and that her conversation with Evelyn seemed so mature. They talked about what brings Evelyn happiness. She likes to spend time with her step sisters. They have a lot in common and she likes sharing a room with them. She loves her dogs but doesn't like all the cleaning because they shed and leave dog hair all over. Mrs. Yauck told Evelyn that she knows what she is talking about because she has dogs too. Evelyn likes it when mom does her hair. It is so incredibly adorable and, yes, mom is very good at it. Math is Evelyn’s favorite subject in school and she loves hanging out with her friends at school, after school, and even some weekends.

St. Mary School first grader Conrado Garza had a Picnic with the Principal on Thursday, Jan. 18. Mrs. Yauck said that lunch with Conrado confirmed the wonderful influence Catholic education has on our students. Conrado chose a happy meal for lunch and inside was a toy for a girl. After opening it, he leaned really close to her and asked if he could give it to one of his friends. I said that it was his choice but I think that he would make someone feel very special. Conrado then walked over to one of the 4K children and handed it to her. He quickly turned to walk away so Mrs. Yauck told him to turn around and see the huge smile he just put on his friend's face. Conrado and Mrs. Yauck talked about going on vacation to WI Dells and the water park. Conrado told her that he also loves riding on his hover board that he got for Christmas. He also told her that he does chores around the house with his mom like washing the windows and doing the dishes.

St. Mary School kindergartener Daniel Gonzalez Mendoza was so excited for his Picnic with the Principal on Tuesday, Jan. 24! He couldn’t wait to tell Mrs. Yauck all about the Battleship game he got in his Happy Meal. They set it up and played it a bit. He was really good at it. They talked about what he likes to do and what makes him happy. Daniel is happiest when he is with his family, playing with his brother, and playing with his friends at school. He said he is looking forward to his birthday because his family is going to Mexico to visit his grandparents. Daniel told Mrs. Yauck that he wishes that snow could be in the summer because he loves sledding, making snow forts and building snowmen, but he doesn't like the cold. He loves his class and school because they "do a lot of fun stuff and move around the classroom a lot". Way to go, Mrs. Duke and Mrs. Krueger, for making learning fun for Daniel!

St. Mary School third grader Beckham Hurst had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Feb. 7th. Mrs. Yauck says that watching Beckham grow over the years has been such a pleasure and she seemed so grown up while we had their lunch conversation. Beckham loves spending time with her family. They love to see and travel to other places. They have a vacation planned for spring break. Their end destination is Florida and Disney World. Beckham told Mrs. Yauck that her family is driving so that they can see and spend time is some other states. Highlights are seeing the Cake Factory and horseback riding. They spend a lot of time with the extended family and love playing with their cousins. Beckham loves school and wants us to have 4th grade back. I told her we are working hard on that. She enjoys playing with her friends, loves 3rd grade, loves learning to write in cursive, and doing division.

Kyla Curro, a second-grader at St. Mary School, had a Picnic with the Principal on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Principal Mrs. Mary Yauck says that Kyla is such a pleasure to talk with. Her bubbly personality put a smile on Mrs. Yauck's face during the whole lunch. Mrs. Yauck asked Kyla what she likes to do for fun and she talked a lot about Fondy Sports Park and how she loves it there. Kyla said a whole day can be spent participating in different activities. Some of her favorites were mini golf, simulators, and bumper cars that gave you squirt guns so she could get her dad wet. It sounds like a great place for some family fun. Another favorite of Kyla's is their family trip up north in July. She talked about her dog that she loves so much. Her dog sleeps with her and this morning when she tried to get up for school, she laid on top of Kyla so she couldn't leave.
